The Literature Network is a group of passionate literature advocates based in each city and county of the East Midlands. We each have special areas of interest and expertise in literature. We shape literature development activity in each area according to the priorities of that area and our overall shared strategy as a network. Our mission is to create a region in which writers achieve their ambitions and readers are inspired by the quality of writing around them. We work with a wide range of individuals, groups and partners to develop the literature communities of the East Midlands.

About Us The Literature Network is currently made up of individuals who go by the title of Literature Development Officers (or LDOs). Each LDO is based either in the libraries or arts section of local councils. These official sounding titles are something of an alias, as underneath them you’ll find someone who probably doesn’t look like they work in a council and someone who believes passionately in literature, reading it, writing it and finding routes for it to thrive and grow in their area. Through them, you can find out about the projects and activities happening in your area. We are working with whatever resources we can find, borrow or cajole to build up the literature ‘scenes’ of the region and work very often through partners and with each other. Since 2005, the whole Network has been working together to develop joint projects at a regional level which connect with the flourishing activities in each local area.
The Literature Network is jointly funded by each local council and the Arts Council of England (East Midlands).
We are always keen to find out about new partners and ideas, so if you’re interested get in touch! |
